E-8 AWACS Air Refueling gone wrong..

It must have been one of the most frightening view in the career of the KC-135′s flying boom operator.

A NATO E-3 Sentry almost hit the tail of the tanker and its flying boom during air-to-air refueling operations. Not only the close proximity of the two large planes was dangerous, but also the evasive maneuver the pilot performs to avoid collision: the AWACS (airborne early warning and control plane) pulls several negative G-forces to gain quick separation from the refueler.

Do you know why the tanker nosed down? Because of the aerodynamic forces that occur between both aircraft in close proximity. You have what is called a bow wave from the receiver so just after disconnect the AWACs got low and too far forward so when it made a slight nose up correction is caused the pitch in the tanker to nose down cause the near miss. A breakaway should have been called by the boomer.

At the moment Doubti is injured: We do not know, how it happened, but he is lame because of a strain. If we have bad luck, he is not allowed to trot or to gallop for 3 month... Conseuently 'sorry' for not so much new clips. So please wish us luck, that it is already better in 10 days when the vet is going to check his leg!

Apple surprises with new iPad as it unveils iPad Mini

Apple unveiled its hotly anticipated 7.9-inch iPad Mini this afternoon, an “entirely new design” of its trail-blazing tablet. “There is nothing as amazing as this, this beautiful new iPad Mini,” said Apple’s top marketing officer Phil Schiller At 7.2 millimeters thick, it’s a quarter as thin as the fourth-generation iPad, also announced today. It weighs .68 pounds. “It’s as light as a pad of paper,” Schiller said. Available in Apple’s customary black and white, the iPad Mini fits in your palm and can be held in landscape or portrait mode. All 275,000 apps available for iPad are compatible. The wi-fi version of the iPad Mini starts at $329, the 32 GB version is $429 and the 64GB version is $529. Pre-order is available on Friday. “Others have tried to make tablets smaller than the iPad and they’ve failed miserably,” Schiller said, showing an iPad Mini beside an Android tablet on the movie screen behind him. In a surprise announcement, the company also announced a fourth-generation iPad, setting up a formidable product line for this year’s holiday shopping season. “It is a powerhouse,” said Schiller. “We’re so far ahead of the competition I can’t even see them in the rear-view mirror.” The new iPad includes 10 hours of battery life, an updated front-facing HD camera, LTE data speeds, faster wi-fi, and the new lightning connector that’s reversible and 80 percent smaller. The iPad 16GB version starts at $499, with the same pricing structure as the previous versions. Apple has sold a whopping 100 million iPads, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced. “This is unprecedented for a new product in a new category,” Cook said. In a veiled reference to Microsoft’s upcoming Surface tablet, which hits stores Friday, Cook said Apple sold more iPads in the June quarter than any PC manufacturer sold of their entire PC lineup. “This has attracted a fair amount of attention,” Cook said to subdued laughter. “It seems like every day there’s a new tablet shipping.”

Beluga whale 'makes human-like sounds'

While dolphins have been taught to mimic the pattern and durations of sounds in human speech, no animal has spontaneously tried such mimicry.

But researchers heard a nine-year-old whale named NOC make sounds octaves below normal, in clipped bursts.

The researchers outline in Current Biology just how NOC did it.

But the first mystery was figuring out where the sound was coming from. The whales are known as "canaries of the sea" for their high-pitched chirps, and while a number of anecdotal reports of whales making human-like speech, none had ever been recorded.

When a diver at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in California surfaced saying, "Who told me to get out?" the researchers there knew they had another example on their hands.

Once they identified NOC as the culprit, they made the first-ever recordings of the behaviour.
