'Our lives have been made hell': Couple at centre of crying toddler baseball video say they are now 'viral-villains' and demand apology after Yankees commentator's attack
A couple caught on camera claiming a foul ball at a baseball game while ignoring a crying child who wanted the trophy today said their lives have been made miserable since the video went viral on the Internet.
Texans Sean Leonard and Shannon Moore, who are engaged to be married this Saturday, said their phone has not stopped ringing since the incident at Wednesday's Yankees-Rangers game and that the level of vitriol they have experienced online has been unfair and totally out of proportion.
In fact, the couple have demanded an apology from veteran New York Yankees commentator Michael Kay, who accused the pair of insensitivity and of rubbing their lucky catch into the face of three-year old Cameron Shores who was at the match with mom Crystal and dad Kyle.
'My fiance Shannon and I were honestly unaware of the situation of the little boy sitting next to us last night since we were so caught up in the excited and moment of being at our first Ranger's baseball game together,' said Leonard to WFAA.com
'The irony of the situation is, had we seen that he was upset and known for an instant, there's not a person that knows us that wouldn't agree that we would have given the ball to the child.'
Backing her husband-to-be up, Moore was adamant that their actions were not malicious or mean and that since the television recording made it onto the internet their lives have become miserable.
'I love children, I would never hurt someone,' said Moore.
'It's very hurtful, especially when you know you wouldn't intentionally hurt somebody or hurt their feelings.
'Especially when it's a little-bitty toddler.'
Rounding on Yankees commentator Kay, Leonard and Moore feel that he added fuel to the flames of the fire that has raged since the clip made it online.
'He took an event and sensationalised it, threw it out there, never checked or validated the facts,' said Leonard.]
However, it appears there are no hard feelings from the Shores, who are willing to put the whole event behind them.
'I really don't think they knew,' said Crystal Shores.
'I mean, it's loud there. He had his back to them and I really don't think it was anything malicious. I don't think they did it on purpose or anything else.'
Adding to his wife's sentiments, Kyle Shores feels that there has been no harm done.
'You just cant tell whats going on. They got a bad rap for the way it was shot and his reaction. It just happened to be the time they showed it it didn't look good but it wasn't that way at all,' said Kyle.
